The Medical Health Careers Academy
The MHC Academy at Simi Valley High School is designed to expose students to the many aspects of the growing fields of medicine and health care. Guest speakers, hospital tours, beginning medical terminology, and hands-on lessons and projects will give students the knowledge and experience they will need in preparation for employment or post-secondary study.
The MHC Academy's program includes Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, providing students with background knowledge in health care issues such as health care delivery systems, ethical and legal responsibilities, and health care environment and safety. CTE courses also feature career
planning, including enquiries into specific interests, available options, and job search skills that relate directly to the medical and health care fields. Students will study medical terminology and medical math, investigate a wide variety of health care topics, and learn basic business writing, speaking, and interviewing skills. Job shadowing, emergency procedure preparedness, and hospital or clinic internships will facilitate the practical application of the knowledge students gain within the MHC Academy.
Our academy students are members of HOSA Health Occupations Students of America.
HOSA is the nationally recognized student organization for health science and technology education students. HOSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of the Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE) as an integral part of Health Science Education via an official policy statement.
